Link to file from custom button not...

Hi all,

in RoboHelp 8 I noticed that I cannot use the ''Link to'' function to link a custom button to a file (in my case a PDF). Even if I use the browse button to select the file, RoboHelp always tells me the file does not exist and does not let me close the dialog. Am I overlooking something or is this a bug? Of course I could use Java Script to open the file, but from my understanding the ''Link to'' field is intended for just that and should work.

Can you be a bit more specific about the ''Link To'' function you describe. Are you using a custom image and then the Insert %26gt; Hyperlink menu item with the Link To %26gt; File command? If so, there is no reason why this shouldn't work. Have you tried saving a copy of the PDF to a different location and selecting that?

Link to file from custom button not...

Hi Colum,

when inserting a custom button in the skin using the skin editor, there is an action option called ''Link to'' or ''Hyperlink'' (I do not use the english version, therefore I cannot tell the exact english UI term). This allows to select a file to link to the button. If I select a file and close the dialog, then RoboHelp always says the file does not exist.

I have seen this and not far back Rick Stone advised me he had hit the problem. I tested and it was fine. Rick went back to RH and repeated the same actions he had already followed and it worked. That is what happened to me. It's a female function, you just have to catch it in the right mood! (Running for cover)

You are right, I tested it in a new project and it works! I went back to the old project and it worked - at first. Then I tried it again and it fails. It also seems that if you once had a java script attached to a custom button and try to change it to the normal link function, it fails too.

Yep, just try again later and who knows!

I refer you to my original comment.
